When your baby turns one, it’s a big deal — for them and for you. For this first birthday, we went with a “One Happy Dude” theme (you might also know it as the “One Rad Dude” birthday party trend) and it was the perfect mix of laid-back fun, DIY touches, and little details that made the day feel so special.
Let’s start with the cookies — because honestly, they stole the show. My friend made custom “One Happy Dude” sugar cookies with smiley faces, bold colors, and perfect details that matched the theme perfectly. If you’re throwing a one happy dude or one rad dude party, custom cookies are a must — they’re a great way to tie in the theme and double as dessert and decor. And yes, I am now fully convinced my friend needs to leave her 9-5 and open a cookie business.

One of my favorite details was the DIY party koozies! I made simple “One Happy Dude” koozies to set out by the drinks, and they were such a hit with guests. Not only did they keep everyone’s drinks cold, but they became the easiest take-home favor ever. If you’re looking for a unique first birthday party favor, this is it. This is a mockup, but we did make a ton of them (the back had smiley faces with lightening bolt eyes).

Here’s what we used to bring the one happy dude birthday party to life:
If you’re planning a one rad dude or one happy dude theme, look for bright, happy colors, smiley faces, and a mix of modern and playful touches.
If someone tells you not to go “over the top” for a first birthday — ignore them. A one happy dude first birthday isn’t just about your baby, it’s about you celebrating a whole year of parenthood. You made it through 12 months of sleepless nights, growth spurts, teething, and figuring out life as a parent.
So yes — get the balloons, the custom cookies, and the koozies. Play your favorite playlist. Make it feel like a party. Because this milestone deserves to be celebrated for the whole family.
Of course, no one happy dude birthday party is complete without the cake smash. It was the perfect ending to a day full of smiles.
